vRoam Global receives funding to decrease MOBILE roaming costs for all international travellers

Sydney, 30 September 2003: In an announcement made today, vRoam Global are to receive an injection of funding from Australian Distributed Incubator (ADI) and its parent company Business Strategies International (BSI).

According to Danny Nathanson, CEO, vRoam Global “At a time when the ACCC Mobile Services Review is looking at whether regulation is required to reduce the cost of mobile roaming this funding will accelerate the growth of vRoam Global.

“The potential is enormous in an environment where mobile roaming is highly uncompetitive.  Our primary focus will be to provide our service in an increased number of destinations, increase our sales channels and target corporations and individuals that have a high propensity to travel.  We have already grown from offering a service in 3 countries to 15 countries, covering the majority of corporate destinations”.

Speaking at the announcement Randal Leeb du Toit, CEO, ADI said “In the current climate of cost cutting, we at ADI are delighted to be partnering with vRoam Global to bring tangible savings to international roamers.”

With vRoam, mobile phone users are contactable on their normal Australian mobile number and have the option of having a local number in the foreign country, offering local calls at similar to local rates.  Using vRoam Global does not affect customers existing relationships with Australian mobile carriers.

The vRoam service relies upon a unique Virtual Roaming process that has been developed affording customers the ultimate transparency and control.

Due to the nature of the GSM network, an Australian mobile phone user in New Zealand pays approximately $7.78 to not receive a call (and to listen to their voicemail later) when their mobile is switched off.  The price with vRoam is $0.96.  These calls that get bounced back and forth between the Australian network and the foreign network are called ‘tromboned calls’ and partly account for exorbitant mobile phone bills while travelling.  In addition to costly tromboned calls being eliminated, vRoam slashes the costs of mobile phone usage overseas by approximately 50%.
