Sydney, 22 July 2004 – vRoam Global, an Australian mobile communications provider, has expanded its global reach to Malaysia and Greece, now providing Australian travellers with access to cheaper mobile roaming services in more than 25 countries. The company has also expanded its product suite, announcing two new products in addition to its mobile roaming service.
vRoam has introduced the new products and countries in response to requests from customers who are seeking greater flexibility of mobile and data roaming services with lower costs.
vRoam has broadened its range of products to include a low cost dialup, WiFi and broadband roaming solution, iPass, after its clients expressed a need for Internet and email access when travelling. “Our customers required a solution that would give them secure, convenient and cost-effective access to the Internet and email, when abroad,” said Danny Nathanson, vRoam CEO. “iPass provides users with high-speed remote access to the Internet from over 20,000 points globally. It includes simple dial-up connections as well as wired and wireless broadband to deliver a unified and comprehensive solution.”
iPass works with existing client-server technology and users can continue to use their existing user IDs, passwords and email software. iPass uses 128-bit key Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption to secure user names and passwords during authentication. It’s also interoperable with all VPN, firewall, token card and security solutions, which means users can choose the security products that best meet their needs.
vRoam has also introduced a global post-paid calling card, offering customers an alternative to exorbitant mobile roaming charges in every country. Users receive an itemised account of their call charges making it easier to manage expenses and there is no need to ‘top-up’ as calls are billed to a user’s vRoam account.
Just in time for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, vRoam has expanded its service to Greece and as a result, members of the Australian Institute of Sport and the Australian Paralympic team will use vRoam when they travel to Athens in August.
“Compared to conventional roaming or a pre-paid SIM card, our customers can reduce their costs substantially, while keeping their existing mobile number and service provider in Australia. This means Australian officials and athletes can keep in touch with each other and their loved ones to share their news from the Games,” said Nathanson.
Expanding the service to Australians travelling to Malaysia is also a significant win for vRoam. “We’ve found an increasing number of corporate travellers are frequently visiting Malaysia. vRoam is now available in most of the major international destinations for Australian business travellers in the Asia Pacific region. This is important for us as corporate travellers represent more than 70 per cent of vRoam’s customers,” said Nathanson.
“By using vRoam to provide all their communications needs, travellers can cut costs by up to 40 per cent and also receive a single, itemised invoice, which makes it much easier for individuals and companies to manage costs and budgets,” said Nathanson.
