Virtual GSM roaming service launched
vRoam Australia Pty Ltd has launched its virtual GSM roaming service designed to cut the costs of receiving calls on mobile phones roamed onto overseas networks. The company claims that an Australian mobile phone user in New Zealand can end up paying $7.78 to not receive a call when their mobile is switched off, as opposed to $0.96 with vRoam. due to calls being tromboned between international networks and diverted to voicemail.
To use the service customers divert all their calls to their allocated 'follow me number' and then insert a vRoam sim. This enables them to receive calls on their home network number or a local mobile number in their visited country. VRoam claims that the services has " been developed and trialled for over a year with glowing feedback from users". VRoam is currently available to New Zealand, the UK, France, Belgium and South Africa. The company says it has offices and partners in a number of countries globally and will be expanding into Asia and the US in the next few months.
